Faulty — board out of service

After

Repaired — tested under load

Fault

Some channels on a PLC digital input module read no signal; module diagnostics report an input fault.

Analysis

Field overvoltage/miswiring had damaged the opto-isolators and input resistors of some channels. The isolated input circuit was tested channel by channel.

If the root cause of input damage (field overvoltage) is not resolved, the same channels will fail again after repair.

Repair Steps

  1. 1
    Channel-by-channel test
  2. 2
    Opto-isolator + resistor replacement
  3. 3
    Verification of all channels

Changed Components

  • Input opto-isolators
  • Input protection resistors

Test Result

All input channels read correctly with a 24 V signal; diagnostics clean.

This is an illustrative repair flow that shows the process; no real customer/board information is shared.
