What Is a Safety PLC?

How it differs from a standard PLC, its redundant dual-processor architecture, and why a separate controller runs safety functions.

A Safety PLC is a certified, self-diagnostic controller that runs safety functions (E-stop, light curtain, door interlock). It can combine standard control and safety in one device, but the safety logic runs separately and validated.

A Safety PLC's internal architecture is usually dual-processor/comparative; if the two channels disagree, it goes to the safe state.
